The Earth Charter: How and Why I Use It by Stephanie Tansey

The Earth Charter is a declaration of fundamental principles for building a just, sustainable and peaceful society in the 21st century. The Earth Charter is the product of a decade long, worldwide, cross cultural conversation about common goals and shared values. Already translated into many languages, the Earth Charter seeks to inspire in all peoples a new sense of global interdependence and shared responsibility for the well-being of the human family and the larger living world. It is an expression of hope. It is a call to create a global partnership.

We believe that the world's environmental challenges, human rights, equitable human development and democracy and peace are interdependent and indivisible. The Earth Charter is like an umbrella that encompasses all and so it gives us a new way for thinking about and addressing these issues. The result is a fresh and energizing tool to learn how to build a global community that can provide good support for generations in the future.

The United Nations has declared 2005-2015 as the decade of Education for Sustainable Development. The Earth Charter Initiative is creating education materials for schools and communities all over the world. For teachers, community activists and and students, the Earth Charter can be used as an educational tool for developing understanding of the critical choices facing humanity and the urgent need for the commitment to a sustainable way of life. For businesses and industry the Earth Charter can help steer the way to becoming part of the burgeoning billion dollar sustainable industry. For governments and international community members who have already signed onto becoming sustainable, it can work as a way forward. For ordinary citizens, it is a way to make your life a contribution to the world.

How and why do I use the Earth Charter? Because the Earth Charter was created through a global dialogue, I find that using it in my work in education, whether in schools, in community development, or in my family, opens up the hearts and minds of the people I try and help and deepens my own understanding of the power of dialogue. I started using it in the bilingual international school in Beijing, China in 1993, as the basis of our global citizenship mission, and discovered that students graduated with a deep desire to help the world. In the U.S. I found using it activated a deep responsibility to create events that created a public consciousness. In Central Asia the Earth Charter was a beacon of hope to suppressed peoples and inspired teachers to help students reconnect to their land. In Israel, to cultures in conflict, I have seen it provide the basis for mediation. Now in Nigeria, I find activists seeking the Earth Charter to help impoverished people reconnect to the nature around them and discover a way to connect to the growing global sustainable economy. Simply I find coupling any learning I do or provide with the Earth Charter enables growth to occur. I think this is because it inherent global dialogue is an eternal one and so it resonates with the love, compassion and courage we all have deep inside. In this New Year, let's take a moment and think about how to use the Earth Charter in our lives and in our work to help make the world a better place for all of life.

وثيقة الارض هي تصريح ذو بنود اأساسية لبناء مجتمع عادل ,مستديم في القرن الواحد والعشرين وثيقة الارض هي نتيجة مباحثات ومدوالات عالمية ذا العشر سنوات من يوم الاتفاق وهو أقيم من أجل أهداف وقيم ومعاير مشتركة لقراءة النص يمكن الضغط على (أضغط هنا) هي الأن مترجمة لعدة لغات .وثيقة الأرض تتغلغل وتثير لدي الأشخاص الأحساس والشعور في الشراكة العالمية المتبادلة ,ومسؤولية مشتركة لسلامة سلالة الانسان والعالم الحي الاكبر منه هذا مثال من اجل الامل وهذه مناداة من اجل بناء شراكة عالمية نحن نؤمن أن التحديات البيئية العالمية المحيطة بنا ,حقوق الانسان,التنمية البشرية العادلة الديموقراطية والسلام هم عاملين مرتبطين ببعضهم البعض غير قابلين للأنفصال عن بعض وثيقة الأرض هي مثل الشمسية التي تحوي في داخلها كل شيء وتهب لنا سبل جديدة لأجل أعادة التفكير في تلك الأمور والتطرق لها طبعا النتيجة هي نتاج وسيلة جديدة التي تزيد وتعلم كيف بالأمكان بناء جالية عالمية مساندة للأجيال القادمة . الامم المتحدة أعلنت ما بين السنوات 2005_2015 هن دور لتربية ولتطويرعالم مستديم مركز وثيقة الأرض لتربية UPEACE يعمد على تأهيل مساعدين لتربية,ومركز وثيقة الارض الأعلامي موجود في ستوكهولم في السويد وتتمركز أعماله في تطوير وتنمية عالم مستديم إذ يوجد لدينا برنامج يتحدث عن الدين وعن وسائل الاتصال المستديمة طبعا الموجود في هيدلبرج في المانيا وكذلك يوجد لدينا مبادرة شبابية لوثيقة الأرض من أجل المعلمين ولفعاليات أجتماعية من أجل طلاب الجامعات أيضا بالأمكان أستعمال وثيقة الارض كوسيلة لتطوير التفاهم والحاجة إلى أختيار والأنتخاب من ناحية جوهرية صحيحة وبالمقابل عبر التصنيع والاعمال وثيقة الأرض تمهد وتشق الطريق لتصنيع وتنمية وتطوير عالم مستديم بحوالي بليون دولار وطبعا هذا يتم عن طريق الوزارات وأعضاء الجاليات العالمية هي بالأمكان أن تكون طريق لتقدم والوصول وايضا بالامكان المواطنون المساعدة لقلب حياتهم من أجل العالم كيف ولماذا أستخدم وثيقة الأرض لان وثيقة الارض أنشئت عن طريق الحوار العالمي ,وانا وجدت بامكاني أن أستعمالها في مكان عملي في المدرسة وتطوير جالية أو في حياتي الشخصية وتعمل على أنفتاح القلوب والوعي الفكري لدى الاشخاص الذين هم بحاجة لمساعدتي ولدي وعي لتعميق درايتي من ناحية قوة الحوار كان إستعمالي الاول لوثيقة الارض في مدرسة ذات لغتين عالمتين في بيجين في الصين عام 1993 كأساس للمهام المدنية العالمية وأكتشفت أن الطلاب الذين أنهوا تعليمهم الالزامي لديهم طموح عميق لمساعدة العالم في الولايات المتحدة وجدت أن أستعمالها أدى إلى تفعيل الاحساس والشعور بالمسؤولية عميقة لانتاج مواقف التي تؤدي إلى وعي أجتماعي وثيقة الارض التي هي في مركز أسيا يوجد لها جمعية حيث تعلق آمال لاشخاص اهتموا وقلقوا وشجعوا المعلمين في إسرائيل والمدن التي بها نزاعات رايت كيف الوثيقة توفر اساساً للواسطة ولان في نيجريا أنا أقابل نشطاء والذين يطالبون بوثيقة الارض ولانتاج من جديد علاقة مع البيئية المحيطة واكتشاف كيف بالامكان اقامة علاقة مع الاقتصاد العالمي الذي ينمو في العالم المستديم بكل بساطة أنا وجدت وثيقة الارض لكل التعليم ولكل الذي ادرسة وأفره بالامكان ان ينمو ويكبر ويتحقق أنا أقول أن الحوار العالمي هذا لوثيقة الارض هو ازلي ويسمع منه صدى الحب وسلامة والجرأة التي هي صفات موجودة في داخلنا في السنة الميلادية هذه ,تعالوا نفكر للحظة كيف بالامكان استعمال وثيقة الارض في حياتنا اليومية ,في مكان عملنا وبناء عالم سليم وجيد لنا كلنا . ولطرق اخرى وللمشاركة في مبادرة وثيقة الارض أضغطوا هنا
